A Faith to Live By and to Die

VERSE 1 We come with all the saints of old And speak what they have known: One faith the church has ever held, One Lord, one truth, one throne. VERSE 2 We trust the Father, Maker, King, Who called the light to be, Whose hand still holds the turning world And keeps us tenderly. VERSE 3 We trust the Son, the only Son, Who left His throne above, Was born, and bore the cross's shame, And died for us in love. VERSE 4 Down into death He went alone, Then rose at break of day; Ascended to the Father's side, Our life, our truth, our way. CHORUS A faith to live by, faith to die, A faith no grave can break; We stand upon the ancient word, And this alone we take. VERSE 5 We trust the Spirit, Lord of life, Who makes the dead heart new, Who keeps the holy church of Christ And bears her people through. VERSE 6 We wait the trumpet's certain call, These very bodies raised; And with the ransomed, saints made whole, We'll live and reign and praise. CHORUS A faith to live by, faith to die, A faith no grave can break; We stand upon the ancient word, And this alone we take. OUTRO So here we stand and here we fall, On this alone rely: A faith too sure for death to break— A faith to live and die. Amen, amen.
